UPDATE: Elderly man treated after car plunges into pond near Midhurst

AN elderly man and his wife were rescued from their car at 3.15pm this afternoon (Tuesday, October 20) when it landed upside down in Benbow Ponds near Midhurst.

The man was treated by paramedics and is now being taken by ambulance to hospital.

His wife was shocked but unhurt.

Nigel Gamblen, Station Officer at Midhurst fire station said: “Police officers and the Midhurst fire crew arrived n the scene at the same time and managed to rescue the couple from the car which was partially submerged in the water.”

It is unclear how the car ended up in the pond which is a popular beauty spot.
