A group of caravans remain in Broadwater as a spokesperson for the landowner said they are '˜aware of the situation'.

The caravans set up on the old dairy site in Sompting Road in Broadwater, Worthing, yesterday after being given notice to leave a Lancing school field.

A spokesperson for Travis Perkins, which owns the land, said: “We are aware of the situation and our regional property team are looking into it.”

Police said yesterday that officers had visited the site and were liaising with West Sussex County Council.

A West Sussex County Council spokesperson said: “The travellers are parked on private land, therefore we have no legal obligation to act on the matter.

“However, we will continue to work closely with Sussex Police and provide advice to the land owner, if requested.”
