UPDATE: Paintwork being removed from Shoreham bridge

Paint that appeared on the Adur Ferry Bridge over the bank holiday weekend is being removed today by West Sussex County Council.

Blue and black aerosol paint was sprayed in patches along the bridge in Shoreham, including on the panels, the deck, and the central posts.

District councillor for Marine ward Joss Loader described the paint as ‘an act of vandalism.’

She said: “It is fairly expansive in short bursts and it is a shame on that bridge. There is CCTV on the bridge so we have suggested we have increased signage. The police can review any footage. West Sussex has invested £10 million in the bridge which people love. It is a fantastic bridge.”

The paint follows a number of incidents where glass panels were smashed, but it is not known if the events are connected.

A spokesman for the county council said: “The paint and graffiti is being removed from the Adur Ferry Bridge today. Our contractor is also removing the untidy blue film protecting the damaged panels.”

County councillor for Saltings Division Mick Clark said the county council were looking at a strategy to move forward.

He added: “We still want the glass replaced, and we want it done quickly.”
