UPDATE: Pilot escapes unharmed from Shoreham plane crash

A LIGHT aircraft that crashed at Shoreham Airport today (September 29) was attempting to land.

Firefighters were called to the airport just before 3pm, though the 75-year-old pilot walked away unharmed.

The two-seater Taylorcraft flipped over after getting caught in a downwind when landing, and a paramedic from the Force helicopter, based at the airport, was quickly on the scene.

The pilot from Cranleigh, Surrey, walked away with minor cuts.

Shoreham fire and rescue team righted the aircraft, which suffered a small amount of damage, and airport officials reported there was no impact on other flights.

Sgt Darren Harries, of Sussex Police, said: “The experienced pilot was shaken but otherwise received minor injuries.”
