A Reigate Road resident’s fears were realised when the pothole he reported to the council several weeks previously turned into a large sink-hole.
Bob Spanswick, 74, had noticed a depression in the road and promptly reported it to West Sussex County Council’s highways department.
He was unsurprised, therefore, when the depression turned into the sink-hole on Friday.
Bob said: “I called the council and all they did was put some tarmac on it a week or two later.
“They should have been down straight away.
