UPDATE: Readers respond to MP Twitter spat

READERS have had their say on the Twitter spat between MP Tim Loughton and a resident (Thursday, May 11).

Conservative MP Tim Loughton told a resident to ‘stop whinging’ after she expressed her disgust over his election victory on social media on Friday morning (May 8).

The Twitter exchange took place hours after he had swept to victory in East Worthing and Shoreham with a majority of nearly 15,000.

In response to the story on social media, Mark Longhurst said: “I think it’s disgraceful for him to act like that. Childish even! Tim’s in a position of authority and should show greater respect.”

Another reader, Sarah Mullen, said: “He should never of (sic) said that to a member of his constituency. Goes to show the sort of place Worthing is becoming if MPs insulting people in this manner is ok.”

Other praised Mr Loughton as a ‘professional guy’ and having done a ‘good job’.

Speaking over the weekend, Gavin Ayling added: “Tim’s a great MP and the Government since 2010 has been great.”
