Crews began to repair the pipe yesterday (Saturday, November 26) but say the work has been delayed by electric wires.

A spokesman for Southern Water said; “There are two 33kV High Voltage power cables running directly on top of our damaged water main and so we can work safely in our excavation we are working closely with UK Power Networks to be able to allow us access to repair our main.

“UK Power Networks are in the process of preparing a detailed plan as to how they will de-energise these cables to allow them to be moved.

“We will be progressing with the repairs as quickly as possible, unfortunately we do not currently have a timescale for this work to be done.”

The westbound lane of the Littlehampton Road is currently closed between the Durrington Lane junction and the Yeoman Road junction as a result of the work.

Several homes in the area have been left with no water or low pressure as a result of the burst main.
