The collision between a motorbike and a car happened at 7.35am this morning, closing the eastbound carriageway at the Steyning turn off, and the westbound carriageway at the Bramber junction.

The 28-year-old rider of the Yamaha motorbike was taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the white BMW was uninjured.

An eye witness said the bike hit the car with such force, it snapped the bike in half.

“The biker went flying over the top of the BMW, smashing the motorbike in half,” he added.

There was congestion in both directions between the B2135 Horsham Road junction and the Maudlin Lane junction.

Police said the road was reopened around 11.20am.
