UPDATE: Woman hands herself to police for savage swan attack in Littlehampton

FOLLOWING the Gazette’s coverage of the brutal swan attack in Brookfield Park, a woman has now handed herself to police.

A spokeswoman for Sussex Police said that a woman, believed to be from the area, handed herself in, after the Gazette’s online and print coverage of the story, over the past few days.

The attack, which took place earlier this month, saw a Staffordshire bull terrier leap over a fence, near the lake in the park, and savagely maul the male swan.

Hours later officials from the RSPCA were forced to put down the well-known cob after its injuries were deemed too severe to treat.

The spokeswoman for the force said: “A woman has come forward who has admitted the dog involved in the attack is hers. Inquiries are continuing and we are considering what action, if any, will be taken.”
