A man is believed to have suffered a heart attack at the start of That’ll Be The Day at the Congress Theatre in Eastbourne and despite the efforts of theatre staff and paramedics, the man was declared dead at the scene.

The show did go ahead but the start was delayed by more than an hour.

That night and the following day, people who had been in the audience contacted the box office and asked for refunds.

That has upset a number of people including P Hubble who contacted the Herald and said, “The show was understandably delayed about 90 minutes. I would have quite understood if it had been cancelled.

“On Saturday morning we went to the Congress to acquire some more tickets to find people are complaining and want their money back.

“Complaining that the show didn’t continue and worst of all complaining that they had to sit near a dead body.

“What has happened to humanity? Someone lost their life and someone has lost their beloved husband, father and or brother and these petty people are worried about themselves. I am ashamed to be part of this human race.”

A spokesperson at Eastbourne Borough Council said, “A man visiting the Congress Theatre on Friday evening sadly died. The police and paramedics attended but were unable to save the man. We would like to extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends at this time.”
