Vibrant Littlehampton display launched new year

Splashes of colour have brought a fresh breath of life to Littlehampton’s museum this month.

Amateur artists from across the area have shown their creativity in the first of two different exhibitions at the Church Street venue.

This group, pictured right, is a selection of students from the Adult Education Art Group at Aspire Sussex courses across the area. Their work, entitled New Beginnings, is set to feature inside the museum’s Community Gallery, until March 8.

The artists hail from two classes held in Climping and Bognor Regis. Members of each class have come up with a rich pool of individual ideas that they feel represents the ushering in of the new year, from dramatic firework displays lighting up the iconic London skyline to a freshly blossomed plant, climbing towards the early morning sun’s meek rays.

Others have taken a more abstract approach to the concept, with one painting portraying a group of travellers, on camel back, making their way through a desert landscape, the glowing sun rising just above the expansive sand dunes. Another painting shows a woman wheeling a suitcase along the empty platform inside a railway station.

Alan Gammon, chairman of the Littlehampton Town Council community resources committee, was impressed by the diversity and talent demonstrated in the exhibition.

A second exhibition, by Richard Marshall has also opened at the museum in the Hearne Gallery, until March 8, and will be featured in next week’s Gazette.
