The group from Matt Fiddes Martial Arts Schools Surrey and Sussex carried out the Kickathon event at St Symphorian’s Church hall, in New Road, Durrington, on Saturday and raised more than £1,000 for Cancer Research UK

Matt Leyh, one of the martial arts instructors, said: “The group of students aged three to 13 years old and the Instructor team did a massive 22,000 kicks in three hours and many of them had raised more than £100 each in sponsorships.

“The Matt Fiddes organisation encourages its students to help in the local community wherever possible and to help those in need, so this is testament to the positive lessons they all learn within the curriculum.”

Worthing mayor Sean McDonald closed the event by commending the children for their achievements.

He said he was overwhelmed with the effort they had all put in to such a great cause.

Many families went along to support the students and even helped by holding pads and counting kicks, too.
