VIDEO: Aftermath of Worthing thunderbolt

THE emergency services were called out in Worthing last night following a series of lightning strikes.

They attended homes in and around Selden Road shortly before 8pm.

The strikes were accompanied by heavy hail, and the noise of one thunderbolt was heard for miles around – in Shoreham and even north of the Downs, in Steyning.

One Broadwater resident who was startled by the thunderbolt told the Herald: “It was the brightest lightning and the loudest thunder I had seen. It literally shook our house. We had to go outside and check the roof. It really was unbelievable.”
