A BUSINESSWOMAN who learnt CPR from a TV advert has called for compulsory life-saving training after helping save the life of a friend’s father.

Melanie Peters, managing director of Best of Worthing, was staying with friend Michael O’Brien last Saturday, when his father, Tony, 76, turned blue and started to gargle.

Realising he had stopped breathing, the pair quickly administered CPR and phoned 999, before paramedics stepped in.

Melanie, 38, said: “It was pretty scary stuff, but Michael was really calm. I’m still in shock now, but at the time, all I kept thinking was that we had to try and get Tony’s heart started.

“It was all a bit of a blur.”

Melanie learnt how to do CPR after watching the British Heart Foundation video, starring Vinnie Jones.
