VIDEO: Consultation on 20mph scheme for Worthing agreed by councillors

CAMPAIGNERS for a 20mph scheme in Worthing have cause for celebration this morning as county councillors agreed a £50,000 public consultation for the proposal.

A peaceful protest by 20’s Plenty supporters took place before the Worthing County Local Committee meeting, at Heene Community Centre, in Heene Road, Worthing, last night (Wednesday, September 4).

After a debate, county councillors unanimously voted in favour of the consultation.

The scheme must gain widespread public support in order to progress further.

Duncan Kay, who is leading the 20’s Plenty campaign, said: “I am very pleased that the councillors made the right decision, and given people the opportunity to have their say.

“I think we are confident that the public will support the idea.”

As well as agreement for the consultation, plans to revamp Montague Street were added to the county council’s priority list.
