A MAN died in a flat fire in Worthing today (Monday, March 19).
Emergency services were called to the property in Gratwicke Road at 5.15am to reports of a blaze in a first-floor maisonette.
Police said houses on either side were temporarily evacuated.
Gratwicke Road, south of Shelley Road, is still closed (as of 8.55am) while police and fire officers investigate the scene.
It is believed the man lived alone.
Police said preliminary indications were the fire started in that flat.
They added the cause of the fire was currently unexplained, although at this early stage there was no evidence to suggest it was suspicious.
