VIDEO: The Great Lancing Business Park Bake Off

SWEET and savoury treats galore were lined up for the first Great Lancing Business Park Bake Off on Friday.

Companies were invited to enter the competition to help raise money for Worthing Churches Homeless Projects, the business park’s chosen charity of the year.

Fizz Creations, of Commerce Way, Lancing, organised the competition and provided prizes in savoury, sweet and children’s categories.

Jenny Fry, one of the three organisers, said: “This is the first year of the competition. We have had many more entries than we expected, so hopefully it will take off like the real Bake Off and continue.”

The cost to enter was £50 per company, to include one savoury, one sweet and two children’s entries. Sponsor EMC Management Consultants also made a donation and more than £1,000 was raised.

Judging took place at Tuc Tuc Kitchen, in Blenheim Road, Steven Edwards, the 2013 winner of MasterChef: The Professionals, East Worthing and Shoreham MP Tim Loughton, Mark Chapple, a consultant from EMC, and cake decorator Liz Kraftman from Kraftman Cakes formed two teams of judges, looking at appearance, taste and decoration.

Michael Punter, chairman of Lancing Business Park, said: “This is a really good business park now. We have 220 companies with 3,000 employees. This is a brilliant idea.”

Pat Lee, who baked a deep chicken and apricot pie for Active4Less, won best savoury and was named Master Baker.

Tessa Charles, from Bard Ltd, won best sweet with her purple Hallowe’en cake.

Lawrence Boon, managing director of Fizz Creations, said: “It is absolutely fantastic. I can’t believe it. What we are doing is all for a very good cause. Worthing Churches Homeless Projects is the chosen charity for Lancing Business Park, they do fantastic work.”
