People gathered at points all along the line, including in Adur Recreation Ground in Shoreham, at the South Farm Road level crossing in Worthing, and in East Preston, expecting to see the powerful Pacific steam locomotive, No. 34067 Tangmere, pass through this morning.

Young and old were even more excited when the train arrived, pulled by not one but two locomotives, puffing away in all their glory.

The train then set off on the scenic route to Bath, where people were given around five hours to shop to their hearts’ content.

En route, the train stopped at Salisbury to take on water, giving the passengers a chance to chat to the steam locomotive drivers.

The steam train can also be seen on its return trip, due to arrive in Worthing at 8.18pm tonight.
