Organised by parent-teacher association FABS (Friends at Becket), this year’s Thomas A Becket First School fete had a vintage theme.

Amy Thorley, FABS co-chairman, said: “We have a new committee this year and we wanted to change it up a little bit and create a village feel, and bring it back to basics.”

Around 500 children attended the event raising £4,200. The school can expect another £2,000 in match-funding from local banks.

The money raised will go towards a yurt, which will act as an outdoor teaching space.

Amy said: “We have got a really active forest school and the children do a lot of work outside. All year groups can use it.”

Activities on the day included spin the wheel, hook a duck, a barbecue, a bouncy castle and more.

Parents I have never met said it was brilliant and that there was a lovely relaxed feel to it,” said Amy.

“A big thank you to everyone, and the local businesses, who helped us raise all the money.”

Amy said that the PTA had already discussed next year’s event, with a circus theme being suggested.
