Volunteers sought in Wick to fulfil New Year’s pledge

THOSE looking to fulfil a New Year’s resolution to volunteer in their community need look no further.

Home-Start Arun is searching for new recruits to join the charity this year.

The group, which helps needy families across the Arun area, will be hosting its next volunteer preparation course at the Wickbourne Centre, in Clun Road, Wick, on January 21.

The course will run from 9.30am until 2.30pm. It will cover eight topics, from safeguarding, confidentiality, equality and diversity, to the importance of play and an introduction into supporting those who have experienced domestic abuse, bereavement or depression.

Prospective volunteers must be parents of have had some sort of parenting experience.

Manager Bridget Richardson said: “The last course attracted many parents who were looking for a way back into training or education, some in preparation for returning to employment.

“We have had several volunteers that have gone on to do social work degrees.

“Volunteering seems to change people’s lives for the better. It gets people thinking about what they want from life.”
