The event was part of the council’s use it or lose it campaign to promote new cheaper parking rates in the town centre’s multi-storey car parks.

Volunteers from the youth council and Worthing car parks cleaned 40 cars, raising a total of £150 for Prostate Cancer UK and GO Youth, a Worthing based charity for youth activities.

Worthing mayor Bob Smytherman brought the mayoral car to be cleaned and encouraged other drivers to do the same.

He said: “It was great fun – the team really worked hard all the time and there was a constant stream of cars wanting their services. The ten youth councillors were absolutely great.”
