VOTE: What can be done about Lyons Farm traffic chaos? '“ with video

CONCERNED residents have spoken out about the traffic chaos at a notorious junction on the A27 at Worthing.

The traffic lights at Lyons Farm are busier than ever since two new shops opened there in 2007, greatly increasing the number of vehicles using the junction.

Customers leaving by car from Argos and Pets at Home are often forced to wait on road hatchings in the middle of the crossroads while they look for a chance to cross the stream of oncoming traffic.

Near misses

Liana Wakeford said: "No thought has gone into the progression of cars coming out of Argos.

"It all seems dangerous to me."

While Peter Allen said: "I have had quite a few near misses at this junction, where vehicles have over-shot the lights, and then blocked up the yellow box."

Putting off shoppers

Reader Helen Pengelly commented: "It's ridiculous that they put that retail park there.

"They should get rid of it so people go to the town centre."

And Terri Shanks added: "I agree they should sort out the traffic flow, but it is still so much better than having to go into town and pay ludicrous NCP parking charges."

Looking to improve

A spokesman for the Highways Agency said: "We are very aware of the traffic flow issues on the busy A27 through Worthing.

"We are committed to investing in improved services and are working closely with our partners to identify measures that will help both in the short and longer term.
