Waitrose in Worthing evacuated following fire scare

WAITROSE was evacuated this morning just minutes before it was due to open over fears a fire had broken out in its plant room.

Firefighters were called to the supermarket in High Street, Worthing, at 9.40am.

Staff reported that the plant room was smoke logged and the alarm had been set off. The store was evacuated as a precaution,

Firefighters investigated and found there was a fault with a boiler, which was letting off a large amount of steam.

The boiler was turned off and made safe, before the shop was opened to the public shortly after 10am.
