A HISTORIAN and an ‘avid’ Laurie Lee fan volunteered their expertise to help a team from Radio Gloucester walk in the footsteps of the famous author.

Martin Snow and Tony Malone, the Worthing Society vice-chairman, guided Heather Simons and her team along the stretch of coastline that featured in Lee’s novel As I walked out one midsummer morning.

The group started in Marine Drive and walked along the coast to Sea Lane Cafe, before moving on to West Parade and along to the pier.

Mr Malone said: “I happen to be a great fan of Laurie Lee and it was interesting to get under his skin as a young man.”
