Warning after Barnham burglars pinch engagement ring

A JEWELLERY theft from a house in Barnham has prompted a warning from police for people to be wary of burglars.

A home in Barnham Road was hit by burglars – who police suspect used a spade to prise open a window – on Monday (January 9), between 10am and midday.

Items stolen include a sapphire and diamond engagement ring, two gold necklaces, a Victorian pendant with a blood stone, three other rings, two gold cufflinks and other jewellery.

PCSO Michelle Davies said: “A burglary in your own home is a devastating experience that can affect your family long after the mess is cleared up and the insurance paperwork is done.

“Prevent a burglar messing with your head as well as your home by taking simple crime prevention measures.”

Residents are being urged to keep their home lit, even when they are not in, as well as making sure windows, doors, sheds and garages are securely locked. Also, never leave valuables like car keys, wallets or door keys, in reach of a letter box.
