Washout

JUST one team turned up to take part in a sponsored jailbreak following the cancellation of the Adur Bath Tub Race on Saturday.

Shoreham and Southwick Round Table, which organises the charity tub race along the River Adur each year, was forced to scrap this year s race because of fears of foot-and-mouth disease.

Instead, it decided to hold a sponsored jailbreak from Adur Recreation Ground, but on Saturday only one team, which normally takes part in the bath tub race, decided to turn up.

John Carpenter, Dave Shaw and Steve Searle, who all work at the Homebase store in Shoreham, have entered a tub in the race for three years.

They arrived with handcuffs and rucksacks, ready to break out and get as far as possible in three hours without using conventional transport, only to find they were the sole competitors.
