Water Babies make a splash for charity cash

Babies and toddlers were dressed as pirates for the Splashathon swim challenge at a number of venues, including Oak Grove College, in Littlehampton Road, Worthing.

They took part in sponsored water-based challenges during their Water Babies classes. The money raised will help fund vital research into stillbirth, premature birth and miscarriage.

Caroline Braund, who runs the classes, said those involved were aged from just a few weeks to four years old. She set them a variety of fun challenges that they had never completed before, such as swimming through a hoop, gathering floating balls and swimming underwater.

She added: “Splashathon helps to raise funds for a really important cause, as well as being a lot of fun for everyone involved.

“We plan to make 2015 a record-breaking year in terms of funds raised and it was great to see the children in action, splashing about and having fun, all in the name of charity.”

The target is £7,500, which will go towards a national total for the charity. Water Babies hopes to smash its previous national fundraising record of £491,000.

Jane Brewin, chief executive of Tommy’s, said: “Splashathon has become such a fixture in our calendar and it’s always great to hear how much fun everyone has.

“Its success is down to Water Babies and its clients throwing their weight behind it and showing a real passion for our cause.”
