WEATHER WARNING: High tide and thunder storms flooding risk in West Sussex

A SEVERE weather warning has been issued by the Met Office today (Friday, August 13) as up to 20mm (one inch) of rain is expected to fall within an hour this afternoon.

Heavy, thundery showers will continue to develop and become widespread this afternoon and evening.

This may coincide with the high spring tide (6.6 metres) and could lead to surface flooding in areas where surface water normally drains off into the sea or rivers.

The public are advised to take extra care and refer to the Highways Agency for further advice regarding traffic disruption on motorways and trunk roads.

Worthing Borough and Adur District Councils are reviewing emergency plans to be ready for any flash floods tonight.
