Wellbeing centre supports mental health charity
Award-winning wellbeing centre Laroma Therapies has presented a cheque for £1,822 to Coastal West Sussex Mind.
Lauren Vaughan launched the business in Buckingham Road, Worthing, in 2015 and is keen to raise awareness for the charity, as it means a lot to her.
She explained: “When I was around five years old, my mum Anna was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and was hospitalised for three months after being sectioned.
“There was a massive struggle for my mum in getting the help she needed and the standard of care just wasn’t good enough.
“Not only was there not enough care or support for my mum but there was also nothing out there in terms of support for myself, my younger sister or my dad, who had to practically bring us girls up on his own.
“It was a very difficult time and caused my mum and dad’s relationship to break down and also the relationship Anna had with both us girls. There wasn’t enough support and care around for any of us at the time.”
Now, though, Coastal West Sussex Mind is involved in supporting carers, families and friends of those affected by mental health problems.
This really spurred Lauren to want to help the charity, by raising money and awareness.
She added: “Laroma has such a high standard of care and believes in caring and looking after anyone, no matter who they are. We believe in bringing wellbeing back into people’s lives, both mentally and physically, through the treatments we offer here.”
The centre raised a total of £911.10 through a special event with taster treatments and raffle with bumper prizes. This was kindly doubled by neighbour Roffey Homes, bringing the total to £1,822.20.
The event was supported by Worthing mayor Sean McDonald and town crier Bob Smytherman, as well as regular clients and members of the public.
