West Sussex councillors allowances and expenses

NEARLY £1.3million was claimed by West Sussex county councillors in allowances and expenses for the year 2009-10.

The highest Worthing borough claimant was Clem Stevens, with 22,273, followed by Irene Richards (19,909) and John Livermore (18,666).

Figures for the Worthing area county councillors were:

James Doyle (Worthing Pier), 9,147.

Peter Evans (East Preston and Ferring), 37,036.

Donald Lissenburg (Gaisford), 2,255.

John Livermore (Worthing West), 18,666.

Keith Mercer (Goring and Northbrook), 2,342.

Colin O'Neill (Salvington), 2,915.

Alan Rice (Broadwater), 8,957.

Irene Richards (Worthing East), 19,909.

Clive Roberts (Worthing Pier), 1,289.

Robin Rogers (Northbrook), 8,957.

Bob Smytherman (Tarring), 8,957.

Clem Stevens (Cissbury), 22,273.

Deborah Urquhart (Angmering and Findon), 32,705.

Nicola Waight (Durrington and High Salvington), 9,560).

Steve Waight (Goring), 12,047.

The highest claimant was former council leader Henry Smith (Maidenbower), who claimed 49,439.

Mr Smith went on to be elected the new Tory MP for Crawley.
