West Sussex County Council appeals for foster carers

WEST Sussex County Council has issued an appeal for more foster carers, especially from minority ethnic groups.

One in six children who arrived in West Sussex County Council this year are from ethnic minorities.

Cabinet member for children and families, Peter Evans, said: “To provide the highest standard of care, West Sussex County Council does its very best to match West Sussex children needing care to West Sussex foster carers.

“Children thrive on familiarity so our approach also means children and young people who need care stay close to their school, friends, people and communities they know.”

Foster carer Pray Molden says: “I permanently moved from South Africa to England in 1998.

“I’ve been a foster carer for over three and a half years and it is just so rewarding.

“I have fostered children who come from different cultures, have a different religion, a different diet and even speak a different language and we’ve still managed to do very well together.”
