New PCSO: We are fortunate as a village community to have been taken under the wing of a new and enthusiastic Police Community Support Officer, Demetrius Georghiou. With a view to being a prominent and approachable figure in our village, Deme is keen to introduce himself to village residents, parents and guardians and would be happy to say hello whilst on his rounds.

Westfield Horticultural Society: The programme season starts with a St Valentine’s Quiz night with supper tomorrow Saturday, 14th of February at the Parish Hall – more details below. The Spring Show and seed swap is on the 28th March. We have a keynote speaker, Mr Hiliary Newman, from Hadlow Agricultural College on Wednesday, April 15th. His talk is entitled “The Small Greenhouse”, something most of us have, but do we know how to use them to their full potential. Come along and find out. The season continues with a plant sale held at the Village fete on 23rd of May. There is a coach trip to RHS Wisley on Saturday, 13th June to be followed by a self drive to the Lavender Nursery near Otford on July 25th. There is another self drive on Saturday, 22nd August to the Friary Gardens, Hastings. September 12th is the Autumn Show, with the AGM on 21st October. Saturday, 24th October will see the weigh in of pumpkins to be held at the Plough Inn. Further details of the above activities will appear nearer the time. Do make a note in your diary now, particularly of the talk by Mr Hiliary Newman. The year book is prepared and will be delivered shortly together with the newsletter. Westfield Horticultural Society: is again presenting their celebrated St. Valentines Quiz night tomorrow Saturday 14th February 2015 at 7 for 7.30pm at Westfield Parish Hall (which is adjacent to the church).Tables of up to 8 are invited to attend. The Committee have organised a delicious pasta bake and scrumptious gateaux for supper although regretfully you will have to bring your own beverages. The Friendship Club: continues to meet every other Monday in the Parish Hall from 2.00 p.m. to 3.30 p.m. where whist and bingo are enjoyed by members. Westfield Scout Group: is celebrating its centenary in 2015. If you have youngsters, boys or girls, between the ages of 6 and 13 who are looking for fun and adventure why not give Beavers, Cubs of Scouts a try. For full details contact Frances on 754548 or Rose on 754080.

Westfield School Governor: A number of vacancies have recently arisen within our Governing Body, including a Parent Governor role and newly created ‘Co-Opted’ roles. Governors play a critical role in keeping the governing body aware of the views of parents and the local community. Serving as part of a team and an enthusiasm for the work of the school is paramount to a successful governing body. This is your website, set up to serve the village community, and your contributions, news and views are needed. The website now has details about locally available produce such as eggs or vegetables for sale from home and ‘back garden’ producers. Rye and District Association of the National Trust: On Thursday 19th February, Laton Frewen will return to inform us about “Mary Queen of Scots”. All Talks will be at Brede Village Hall commencing at 2.00 pm. The entrance fee of £3 (members) and £4 (non-members) includes refreshments after the talk. Forthcoming events include our Spring lunch will be held on Saturday 28th March at The Powder Mills Hotel. Please make your bookings with Ros Adkins on 01797 253763. A menu/booking form was included with the recent Newsletter which has been circulated to all members.
