As usual there will be Holy Communion on Wednesday at 9.30 am. The Prayer Group meets at 59 Heathlands at 7.30pm on Tuesday, June 19.

We look forward to the induction of our new Vicar, Revd. Robert Mulford, on Monday, July 2 at 7pm.

The F3 (Friends, Fun and Fellowship) women’s group meets on Thursday, June 21 at 7.30pm in the Parish Hall for a cup cake decorating evening. All women are welcome.

The eagerly anticipated Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations went with a swing in Westfield. The Horticultural Society’s Scarecrow Competition (results below) started on Friday, June 2, and there were over thirty entries displayed around the village. On Jubilee Saturday, families enjoyed a picnic on the school field, with entertainment from the ‘Land Army Girls’, and then around eighty of Westfield older residents enjoyed a celebration tea party in a beautifully decorated hall. The Jubilee lunch at the Parish Church on Sunday, June 3 was wonderful! The weather was much better than forecast for the Westfield Garden Safari on Tuesday 5, and the event raised around £360 which has been shared between the Scout Group, Guides and Brownies and the Youth Club. The organisers would like to thank the garden owners who opened their beautiful gardens to visitors.

Westfield Horticultural Society has announced the results of the Diamond Jubilee Scarecrow Competition. The winner was Mr Winters, with ‘Royal Bodyguard’, with the Hammond Family and ‘Sponge Bob Squarepants’ second and the Bell Family third with ‘Freddy Mercury’. Whitelands Kennels’ ‘Royal Corgi’ and Strawberry Fair’s ‘The Queen in Rollers’ were highly commended. The standard of the entries was very high, and the organisers thank everyone for taking the time and effort to build such wonderful characters. They are indebted to sponsors PCM Estate Agents for their help. The prizes and certificates will be presented at the WCA AGM on Monday, June 28. A charity bungee jump takes place at ‘The Plough’ on Sunday, June 17 from 6-8pm, with a barbecue from 6-9pm. Sponsor forms are available from the bar. Jumpers provide the first £70 to Active Aid and then the rest goes to the charity of the jumper’s choice, including the McCartney Ward at the Conquest Hospital.

Westfield resident Nick Brown continues his guided walks in the area with the next walk on Thursday, June 21 starting at Battle. All walks are circular and start at 10.30am, and dogs are welcome. Nick’s book ‘The 1066 Country Walk’ is recommended by the 1066 Tourist Board and signed copies are available from him.

Westfield Community Association holds its Annual General Meeting at the Community Hall at 7.30pm on Monday, June 25, with refreshments served.  Everyone living in the parish is welcome. The WCA’s governing Council is made up of representatives called Group Members from organisations in the parish, and an equal number of Full Member places available to those who live in the parish and wish to get involved in the Community in a personal capacity.  Elections to the Council’s Full Member places will take place at the AGM, along with the annual election of officers.  Election forms need to be submitted by June 15, so if you think you might be interested in becoming  a Full Member of the Council or just want further information please contact the Chairman, John Barnett, 753323 ([email protected]) for details.  The WCA are also looking for a new Secretary. The Council only meets 4 times a year, so if you would like to offer your organisational skills please contact John Barnett for a discussion.

The East Sussex Hearing Resource Centre is a registered charity providing a no charge mobile information and advice service for deaf, deafened and hard of hearing people living in East Sussex. The mobile unit will be visiting Westfield on Thursday, June 28, and will be in the Old Court House Inn Car Park from 10.30am – 3.30pm.

The vehicle, which is funded by the Big Lottery, is equipped to offer equipment demonstrations, hearing screening tests plus a hearing aid maintenance and battery service. It is accessible to wheelchair users and representatives from both the East Sussex Hearing Resource Centre and Adult Social Care will be available to provide individual information and advice on all aspects of hearing loss. Westfield Village Fete takes place on the school field from 1-4pm on Saturday, June 30. This is organised by the WCA and Friends of Westfield School. This is an opportunity for everyone to celebrate the forthcoming Olympic Games, and you are encouraged to come in suitable Olympic fancy dress! There will be the usual stalls and sideshows, wacky races, fancy dress competition, food and a barbecue. Items can be left at ‘Selwood’, Main Road Westfield at any time.

The Sedlescombe and Westfield Club of the East Sussex Disability Association (ESDA) is looking for new members.  ESDA is a charity organisation led by disabled people and provides expert advice, information and practical support.  ESDA has dedicated accessible coaches with fully qualified driver attendants providing a door to door service for members.  The Sedlescombe and Westfield Club have outings on the second Thursday of the month, and the next outing is to ‘The Wheatsheaf’, Little Common, on 12 July.  Members participate in fundraising to keep the costs down, so there is simply a contribution requested towards the transport.
