Tonight is Whatlington Film Club night at The Royal Oak. Due to popular demand we will be showing Mamma Mia at 8pm (tonight Friday 18th) in The Barn (singing is optional!). If you would like further details about the Film Club, please contact Steve on [email protected] and please let him or Alex at the pub know if you will be coming along to tonight’s film.

This is the final chance to buy the last few tickets for the Palm Reading evening with Robin Lown on Saturday 26th May at 8pm. If you are interested in coming along to what will be a very entertaining and insightful evening at The Royal Oak, please call Alex on 01424 870492. Tickets are just £10 per person.

We have another wine tasting evening coming up at The Royal Oak on Saturday 9th June at 9pm. This time we will be tasting a selection of white wines, including some very unusual ones. The last wine tasting event was a brilliant evening and this one is sure to be just as good. Tickets are just £5 per person so please get in touch on 01424 870492 if you would like to join in.

Thanks to Bob for doing the quiz last week when the Tony Hancock Fan Club won by just 2 points. We hold a quiz every Thursday at The Royal Oak, with questions on a variety of topics including a picture round. It’s lots of fun, so if you want to put a team of up to six people together, please join us on Thursdays at 8pm.

Irish Music Night at The Royal Oak is coming round again - next Friday 25th May from 8.30pm. This is always a fabulous night of live music from talented local musicians who join together at the pub once a month for a Traditional Irish Tunes session. Admission is free, but booking advisable on 01424 870492.

Having reviewed “The Sealed Letter”, The Royal Oak Readers have now moved on to “The Woman in White” - the classic mysterious ghost story by Wilkie Collins. We will meet to discuss it over a glass of wine or two on Tuesday 12th June at 7.30pm. If you would like to get involved in the book club, please come along and join our friendly bunch.

A big big thank-you to Ken for coming to mow the Green outside the pub last weekend (and on his birthday too!). Mike and Alex are so grateful for the help and support that they receive from all of their wonderful locals.

Don’t forget that the Jubilee Street Party will be on Monday 4th June. Whatlington Road from the A21 down to Riccards Lane will be closed from 11am until 9pm so we will have lots of time to eat Spam sandwiches, dance to 50s music and play silly games! The party will have a 50s theme and everyone is invited to come in fancy dress. Please bring enough food (50s themed!) and drink for yourself and guests. There will be a cake competition, Queen’s Head competition, “who’s the baby photo” competition and lots of games. This is such a great opportunity to be involved in your local community and meet your fellow villagers for some good old fashioned fun, so please come along! Further details will be published in the next edition of the Whatlington News, or call Angie on 01424 870087.
