White hopes for a Rebels return from O’Flaherty

WORTHING Football Club manager Chris White is hoping to secure the return of Chris O’Flaherty to Woodside Road this week.

The left-sided player, who was a firm favourite at Worthing, quit the club after their play-off semi-final defeat back in the 2008/09 campaign.

He spent last season, which turned out an injury-plagued one for the experienced player, with Ryman League Premier Division side Met Police, who he had spent most of pre-season with.

He has, however, been back training with Rebels this week and White expected him to play a part in their pre-season friendly with Brighton & Hove Albion last night (Wednesday) and would commit to the club this week.

White said: “He’ll be a good signing as he’s a natural left-sided player and it now seems Sam Mannings isn’t going to be around as much as we thought.

“I’ve been after a left-sided player all summer so it’ll be good to get him on board.”

White will also be making decision on a number of trialists this week after he has had to wait on a number of developing injury worries with his squad.

With the news last week that midfielder Tom Manton would miss the start of the season after being ruled out for six weeks with a hairline fracture of an ankle, while Matt Piper still has a groin problem.

Rebels new boy Scott Tipper is the latest on the treatment table after the striker picked up a calf knock in training on Monday evening.

White said: “I’ll be sorting out all the trialists this week as I am still waiting to see on one or two injuries.”
