Piano recital: This evening (Friday) Tom Harris is giving his Piano Recital in St Thomas’ Church at 7.30pm. Tom who is a talented musician will be playing selections from Beethoven and Ravel. The tickets are £10 p.p. which includes a glass of wine and can be purchased from Winchelsea Farm Kitchen or at the door.

Summer Fete: The Summer Fete and Fun Dog Show is tomorrow on the Cricket Field from 1.30 to 5pm. There are plenty of family activities, plus a grand raffle, Pimm’s bar, games, BBQ and much more. Adults pay £1, children and parking free and you may bring your dog for the show. If you would like to see more of the town during your visit the Methodist Chapel which has a history dating back to 1785 is open to visitors from 2 to 4pm. You will find the Chapel opposite the New Hall and Cricket Field.

Guided Cellar Tours: will take place this weekend on August 9th and 10th starting at 11am. You will need to meet at the Town Well in Castle Street, location 7 on the map, ten minutes before the start time. The cost is £5 p.p. and proceeds go towards maintaining the ancient monuments in the town. If you would like to join the tour please contact FOAM on 01797 222629 to book your place.

Icklesham Parish Council: next meets on Monday August 11th at 7.15pm in the Court Hall. If you live locally and have questions to ask relating to the town you are welcome to bring them along for the start of the meeting.

Church Restoration: Restoration work is underway to rectify the vandalism done to some of the artefacts in St Thomas’ Church early this year. Local skills are being used to replace the stolen panel on the Millennium Tapestry. As for the damage done to the copy of Rubens’ Descent from the cross and the George Patten Baptism of Christ paintings, the restoration cost will be over £4000 and the work is unlikely to take place before late September. In addition other expenditure includes the churchyard gates on Back Lane. These are being repaired and new notice boards will be installed. The north east gate opposite the Little Shop is to be replaced and it is hoped that this should all be finished by the end of August.

Winchelsea Beach: An evening of Cash Bingo will be held on Wednesday August 13th in the Community Hall. The doors will open at 7 for 7.30pm and light refreshments are available.

Rye Harbour: There is an opportunity to inspect Rye Harbour Reserve’s moth trap and observe the variety of moths caught before they are let loose. The place to meet is Lime Kiln Cottage Information Centre on Sunday August 10th at 10am (wheelchair accessible) and donations towards the Reserve would be appreciated.
