Not only is Worthing Lions Club receiving and donating warm winter wear to our campaign to help the homeless and the elderly this winter, but it is also backing nursing for dementia sufferers and providing people with ‘message in a bottle’ containers.

Marian Down, PR officer for the charity, said: “We were given a lot of mens clothes last week and we have gone through a great deal of ladies warm jumpers as well – it’s good stuff we have been given.”

The charity has donated £750 to Admiral nurses – mental health nurses specialising in working with family carers and people with dementia.

It has also provided around 10,000 ‘message in a bottle’ containers for the public.

The ‘bottles’ are small plastic containers in which people can store their medication details in case of an emergency.

The containers are kept in the fridge – as most households contain one.

A sticker, designed to be placed around the front door of the home, is also provided to alert the emergency services to the presence of the bottle.

The bottles can be obtained from doctors surgeries and from Worthing Lions Club shop in George V Avenue.
