Witness appeal after attempted handbag snatch in Littlehampton

Police are looking for a couple who tried to take a handbag from a young woman in a Littlehampton street, a spokesperson confirmed.

The 18-year old woman was walking home from Littlehampton railway station along Terminus Road, when she was approached by a man and a woman at about 11.30am on Wednesday (15 March), the spokesperson said.

The couple asked for change, saying it was ‘for the electricity’. according to the spokesperson.

The woman said she did not have any but a short while later at Howard Place, as she turned into the alleyway that leads to Linden Road, the man pulled on her handbag trying to take it from her, the spokesperson said.

He was unsuccessful and she managed to run away, the spokesperson confirmed.

Nothing was stolen but her bag was damaged and she was left visibly shaken, said the spokesperson.

Detective Constable Mandy Taylor said; “Did you see or hear anything in the area at that time, or were you also approached in this way?”

Both the suspects were wearing white tops, she added.
