Witnesses wanted for serious assault in Sompting

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted and suffered a serious head injury in Halewick Lane, Sompting, in the early hours of Sunday, June 16.

The 21-year-old man was found lying on the ground at the top of the lane at 2.45am. He was taken to Hurstwood Park neurological unit at Haywards Heath to undergo surgery where he is in a serious but stable condition.

A 50-year-old Worthing woman has been arrested on suspicion of assault and released on bail until 15 July.

Detective Sergeant Alex Lowe said: “We are appealing for witnesses because we believe there may be other people involved in this assault. The man has suffered a serious head injury. He was taken to Worthing Hospital initially but then transferred to Hurstwood Park neurological unit for surgery.”
