Dorothy, the cowardly Lion, and the scarecrow were joined by the great Oz himself and the Wicked Witch of the West to bring festive cheer to Garret's Newsagent's frazzled clientele, pictured, left .

"It's in aid of us having some fun," explained manager Maggie Austwick.

The dressing-up has become an annual event, with staff coming in to work in previous years as Mummy and Father Christmas, and even St Trinian's girls.

"We decided to start doing this because we wanted to have a bit of fun. Some of the customers have so much to think about and it brightens up their day.

"Of course, we are also making customers skip through the door as well," Maggie added.
