Woman attacked and raped in Worthing

A WOMAN was attacked and raped in Worthing in the early hours of Sunday morning, police have said (October 27).

Shortly after 1am a 25-year-old local woman was walking home west along Littlehampton Road, Worthing, when she was engaged in conversation by a man who walked along with her for some minutes before suggesting a short cut into an alleyway on the right hand side of the road by the Mister Clean car wash.

Once the alleyway he attacked and raped her before making off.

The victim was severely shocked and distressed and has been receiving support and counselling from medical experts and trained detectives.

The suspect is described as white, in his early twenties, about 5ft 3in, with short dark hair and wearing dark clothing.

He spoke with what appeared to be a European accent.

Detective Sergeant Kevin Scullion said; “We would like to hear from anyone who was in the Littlehampton Road area of Worthing at around 1am onwards on Sunday morning. Did you see the woman or the man, alone or together?

“This is an isolated incident for the area and not part of any pattern of offences, but it is a very serious crime and we need to find this man as quickly as possible.”
