Hilary Brockelbank from Lancing braved the barber’s razor at the weekend to raise more than £200 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The 63-year-old was joined by friends and relatives at Esquire’s Barbers in South Street, Lancing, where she had her head shaved.

She said it was ‘remarkably liberating’, adding: “I don’t really think about it until I catch sight of myself in the mirror and think ‘who is that daft old woman!’.

“Sometimes it can get a bit chilly, especially if you’re stood under an air condiitoning unit in a shop.”

Hilary decided to do the charity shave because her mother June had died of cancer 13 years ago. Her sister-in-law and her sister-in-law’s husband also both had cancer, and were treated by the same nurse from Macmillan Cancer Support, who Hilary described as ‘absolutely fantastic’.
