Woman throws cannabis plants at police

POLICE were greeted by a woman throwing potted cannabis plants at them after responding to a domestic disturbance at a Worthing home on Thursday.

A cannabis factory, with 25 plants and cultivation equipment, was found at the address in Elm Grove when police arrived, at 1.45pm.

Officers found the front door broken and the woman then threw the plants at them.

Police previously said the woman was threatening to harm herself with a knife.

Eye-witness Elliot Winfield, 19, said he had seen a woman taken away by police, with ambulances also on the scene.

He said: “I saw a woman taken out in handcuffs. She was shouting abuse.

“I saw two ambulances, a four by four police car, two police cars and a boy also came out of the house carrying a pug dog, crying.

“The woman was jumping around, being restrained.”

Alex Gowing, 17, of Elm Grove, also became aware of the incident after hearing loud noises outside his house.

He said: “I could hear someone shouting for help. I had no idea what was going on outside.”

A 39-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage. She was later released without charge.

A 47-year-old man from Worthing was arrested on suspicion of the cultivation of cannabis. He was given a caution.
