Worthing and Adur advice bureau says farewell to chief executive

Warn tributes were paid to Sarah Lamb and her “immense contribution” to the bureau’s development over the past 11 years.

Chairman Margaret Bamford thanked Ms Lamb for managing CAB through difficult times.

“More people are seeking help and their advice needs are becoming more complex,” she said.

“The service is under huge pressure and, as with all charities, there is constant uncertainty about funding.”

During her farewell speech, Ms Lamb said CAB volunteers understood it was not just about giving the right help and advice at the right time.

“It is about one human being demonstrating, by their actions, that another human being has intrinsic value,” she said.

She went on to describe the pressure on staff and volunteers as “unremitting”, with constant requests for help over issues including debt, housing, welfare, consumer issues and immigration.

Mrs Bamford said: “We rely on able people, like Ms Lamb, supported by a handful of trained staff and an army of willing volunteers, to survive.

“We are at the heart of the Big Society.”
