Worthing Birdman winners 2010

THE crowd roared with excitement as the final flyers pushed their machines to the extreme at Worthing Birdman 2010 today (Sunday, August 15).

Final flyer Toby Quantrill took home the trophies for the Condor class and the over-all Worthing Birdman, thrilling the crowds with his final flight of 81 metres.

"I had a great time this year, I was pleased with it," he said.

"I thought I was going to make the 300 metres for a couple of gorgeous seconds but I got dropped."

Dr Bill Brooks added to his trophy collection as he won the Leonardo category for the third year running.

Kingfisher class winner was Paul Kearney, who took off dressed as an octopus.

The people's choice award went to Dean Towers and Brian Russell, who dressed in bright pink body stockings and danced to the theme tune to the 1970s sitcom Butterflies before flying their red admiral craft.
