YOUNG football fanatic Oliver Lurring has been treated to his first match experience courtesy of Manchester City FC.

The 12-year-old was given an exclusive tour of Etihad Stadium and a blue carpet experience, where he could ‘high-five’ his football heroes as they entered the stadium.

Oliver, of Forest Lane, Castle Goring, was allowed to stand pitchside to watch the players warm up and dined in Legends hospitality before watching the match against Tottenham Hotspurs on Sunday.

“This has been a day I’ll never forget,” he said.

“Getting to ‘high-five’ the players, having my name on the big screens in the stadium and getting to look behind the scenes in the dressing room was unreal.

“I can’t wait to tell all my friends and teachers in school about the day.”

The VIP experience, which included meeting England manager Roy Hodgson, was a prize in a My First Match competition run in The Sun and Oliver’s mum, Lisa Lurring, was able to go along, too.

The pair saw Manchester City lose 2-1 in an absorbing contest.

Lisa said: “What a fantastic day, both Oliver and I loved every minute – apart from the result, of course.”

The club said My First Match offered young fans the opportunity to win a money-can’t-buy experience which put them at the heart of the action on a Premier League match day. It reinforced City’s dedication to its young fans, while highlighting it as a Premier League leader offering unique experiences.

Recent signing Raheem Sterling recalled his first football match: “The first football match I ever went to was Manchester United versus Chelsea in the FA Cup final at Wembley and I was 12 years old. I used to play football with friends as a 10-year-old and it makes me just as happy now as it did then.”
