Worthing Dome team 'confident' about future

CONCERNS over the finances of Worthing's Dome Cinema are described as groundless by Belle Stennett, chair of the cinema trust.

The Grade II-listed Dome re-opened for public screenings in July, 2007, after being closed for two years for a 2.3million make-over '” with support including 1.65million from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

But some supporters became worried when the 2007 audited accounts for the Worthing Dome and Regeneration Trust Ltd were not lodged with the Charity Commission by the scheduled deadline of May 31, 2008.

The Charity Commission confirmed to the Herald the accounts were finally submitted on Monday, February 2.

It had previously issued reminders to the trust.

Mrs Stennett said the delay in submission was due to a "technical hitch".

The accounts will be available for public scrutiny later this month.

She also said that the repayment date for a 600,000 loan from the Architectural Heritage Fund had been extended, and so it was not overdue.

When asked about a sum of 75,000 owed by contractors to the trust, Mrs Stennett said the Trust was currently negotiating with the contractors about the outstanding money.

Mrs Stennett said she was confident about the Dome's future and the business plan.

"We have two good tenants, for the cinema and catering facilities, both with 15-year leases, and I anticipate granting a lease for the retail facility in the next two months," she said.
