An event in Worthing will showcase the latest technology to keep residents safe at home next week.

St Paul’s Arts Centre in Chapel Road will host a Telehealthcare Awareness Day on Wednesday June 3 from 10am-3pm.

Technology on show will range from emergency cord pulls worn around the neck, to video phones or bed sensors linked to a call centre.

Providers of telecare in West Sussex will be there to answer questions along with representatives from the county council’s Prevention Assessment Teams, West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service, and the Connect to Support website.

The event is being supported by West Sussex County Council.

Peter Catchpole, WSCC’s cabinet member for adult social care and health, said: “Telecare helps to reduce some of the stress and anxiety for people of all ages who need a bit of extra help to live independently, giving them a feeling of being safe and secure with the added reassurance that if they ever need help, 24-hour responders are always on hand to attend around the clock.

“It also gives many carers the confidence to continue with their lives, with peace of mind that their loved ones are safe at home.”

According to the county council telecare can help the elderly, people with dementia or disabilities, carers, and those at risk of domestic violence or repeat victimisation.
