Worthing family's toy fears

A WORTHING family were horrified to find that children's Christmas gifts contained razor-sharp blades.

The presents, five pencil-packs each with a sharpener blade, were bought at Worthing market by Felicity Eves, of Becket Road.

Miss Eves gave two of the packs to her sisters, 23-year-old Annabelle and 10-year-old Frankie, but she has retained the others after discovering their dangerous contents.

"The knife was like a small Stanley blade," said Miss Eves, "and it is extremely dangerous. I contacted West Sussex County Council trading standards office to warn them about the dangerous toys, which were made in China.

"I bought them from a market stall in Montague Street about three weeks ago, but we didn't know about the blades until one of the packs was opened at Christmas," Miss Eves said.

Miss Eves and her partner, Paul Labelle, work at the Halo hair salon in Rowlands Road, Worthing.

Mr Labelle said: "The blade is exposed when you open the pack. It is so dangerous."
