The Fire Brigades Union (FBU) is currently in dispute with the Government over changes to the Firefighters’ pension scheme and conditions of service.

The strike, organised by the FBU, will take place between noon and 5pm on Friday, between 2pm and 2am on Saturday, and between 10am and 3pm on Sunday.

Roy Barraclough, Worthing station commander, will not be taking part in the strike but said he understood why others were.

“It’s a very emotive and difficult situation. People must do what they feel is right.

“The great thing about living in a democracy, in my view, is we are allowed to do it. I wouldn’t say anyone’s actions are right or wrong.”

Contingency plans will be put in place for the duration of the weekend.

Crews will be made up of a mix of full time and retained firefighters who aren’t members of the FBU.
